Thursday, a full and very rich day, was dedicated to listening to the world of today. Prayer at the Church of Saint Paul helped us remember the first Christian martyrs of Lyon, without forgetting the Marist martyrs who continue to give their lives today. After an official visit to the Town Hall, the group members were welcomed into different workshops led by priests, brothers, sisters and lay Marists.
In the afternoon, as an experience of solidarity, the young people visited different centres or places to witness various commitments. The goal was to allow the young people to see that even today there are still people who commit themselves specifically to serve others so that each one finds a place in our society, works for more justice, but also against poverty and injustice: they were confronted with the challenge of what commitment means.
A beautiful celebration of the washing of the feet invited us put ourselves at the service of others. An evening meal and a concert ended this beautiful day.
Listening to personal callswas the theme of Friday, which had been planned to take place in different places at St Chamond, prior to gathering together at the Hermitage. But rain took over and instead we spent the day at the Hermitage, following four themes:
· Church(build the Church as Marists, a “Church of the apron” at the service of all and open to all, a Church at the service of the poor .. );
· Mission(the witness of the missionaries, who like Mary are ready to set out on the mission of encounter of the other);
· Mary(to contemplate and allow ourselves to follow the attitudes of Mary: silence, humility, presence, availability, service, attention, etc.);
· Jesus(what we consider to be essential about Jesus for bringing about the Kingdom, some images of Jesus for Marists of today).
On Saturday, 23 July we celebrated the bicentenary of the Pledge of Fourvière with the whole Marist Family. It was a time of prayer, of thanksgiving as we remembered that not only in that event we were, so to speak, born as Marist Family, but also we are invited to start out on this path again with all Marists, to come close to the inspiration that led the first ones to make such a commitment and to discover what inspires us to be committed, to be dedicated to a cause, to dare to dream.
The Pledge of Fourvière is not only the memory of the past, it excites us today and inspires us with passion, a goal, a way to walk forward together under the gaze of Mary.
