Dare to dream, Part II

Tuesday provided an opportunity to be immersed in a particular branch.  The young people were invited to go and meet a particular branch of the Marist family to hear the story of its foundation. And so it was that the community of Ste Foy welcomed 50 young people and the SMSM who came with them: the London group with Sr Marie Rose Lengsau, Jamaica with Sr Teri Tinanisolo, California with Sr Pesio Iosefo, New Caledonia with Sr Lusia Meanadrau and Tonga with Sr Sesilia Alamoti.

The presentation of our history, the personal story of two of our Sisters and a picnic took up our morning. In the afternoon we went by bus to La Neylière where we were welcomed by the Marist Fathers. We began our pilgrimage with prayer at the tomb of Fr Colin and a time of meditation on the fresco in the chapel, a visit to the Colin Space and the Museum. The beautiful day ended with Mass which united the Marist fathers and SMSM groups in the chapel. At the end of the day, a young person remarked, “I now know more about the link between the Marist Fathers and the SMSM.”

On Wednesdaymorning the group listened to the Marists of today through a round table discussion and an interactive Marian prayer in which the young people constructed a wall of witnesses with the names of Marists who have touched their lives.

The young people attentively listened to the messages of the Congregational Leaders who invited them to dream, to create a way of living Mary’s example for our time, to develop a strong sense of identity as Marist family, but also to evoke energy, hope, joy, motivation and commitment for the work of Mary.

Taize-style prayer in the crypt at Fourvière was a wonderful experience where we put our dreams, our plans, our hope and also our fears with trust into the hands of God. During this time those who wished were able to receive the sacrament of reconciliation or someone to listen to them. For all it was a moment of heart to heart with God.
