Friday, 4 March: We were calling this our Laudato Sii dayand we had perfect weather as we travelled alongside green fields, blossoms and snow capped mountains on a perfectly sunny day.
37 of us set out for two Franciscan Sanctuaries in Rieti. We arrived at Greccio at 9.30am where we visited the place St Francis had the first live crib in 1223. We also saw the dining room and cells of Francis and his first companions. This sanctuary now has on display cribs from all around the world. Fr Jim Christie celebrated Eucharist with us and we just had to finish with Silent Night…
Our second stop was to the ‘sanctuary of La Foresta’. Here we visited a cave in which St Francis was inspired to write his now famous canticle. It was here that we had our picnic lunch which had been prepared with such love by Sisters Nau, Rebecca and Chantal who also were able to join us from the Via Cassia community.
We took this opportunity to farewell Sr Marie Chantal Mukeshimana who is seen here between Srs Euphrasie and Marie Kampororo as she was leaving the following morning for Peru.
