Despite the very wet weather which caused a re-location of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations to the hall of Cathedral Secondary School, many ex-students joined the present pupils and their families for a weekend of reunions, sharing of memories, prayers and entertainment. A happy time was had by all, and on the Sunday, the Stella Maris Ex-Students Association was formed, with Dan Burese as its first President.
Fr Michael O’Connor SM, rector of Pacific Regional Seminary concelebrated the Jubilee Mass with Frs Frank Hoare SSC, Pio Fong SM and Chris Hifo SM.
The Jubilee cake was cut by Bessie Kingdon, first lady lay teacher at Stella Maris, Sr Judith representing SMSM, Bobi (Serafina Loaloa) first day student, Mrs Cissie Manueli, longest serving teacher at Stella Maris (22 years).
A Fijian meke (dance), which recounted the story of the school was specially composed for the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee, and was performed by the children.
The Sisters and friends joined together to perform a medley of Pacific dances.
