Pilgrimage to Loreto

I was particularly impressed by a great spirit of prayer and devotion among the families who were visiting the shrine of the Holy House. Loreto for me spoke of the great central mystery of our faith, the Incarnation: God-is-with-us and of Mary’s faithful “Yes” to God’s invitation.

It was an education for me to discover that Loreto was an important shrine venerated by our early Marist fathers. Our trip to Loreto today took approximately four hours on a very good road. Fathers Jean-Claude Colin, Chanel and Bourdin took five days in 1833.
