From Cartagena, Colombia

Here we are, in El Pozón, Cartagena, Colombia: Marie Kampororo from Rwanda, Cecilia Legani from the Solomons and Mary Clare Aldridge from New Zealand. The weather is just so hot and the rains are beginning and loads, simply millions of mosquitos and the mud is deep and very hard to avoid. The beauty of course of El Pozón is always the people. There are almost as many children and youth as mosquitoes!

A fraction of them are connected with us through a soup kitchen programme run by Sr Cecilia for breakfast and lunch for 80 little ones and a milk programme for underweight babies. Pastorally we are involved in sacramental programmes and a children's missionary group. Sr Marie is responsible for our section of the parish and for a very big, beautiful church, recently opened. Sr Mary Clare works with the people of the streets who congregate in a park in the centre of town. It is a matter of friendship and helping them to feel their dignity and the great love that God has for them.
