First profession in New Zealand

On the eve of the feast of the Epiphany, 5 January 2013, the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary gathered with friends and family to witness the first profession of Mele Senitila Latu at St Anne’s Church, Manurewa, New Zealand. It was a parish celebration as for the past two years Sr Senitila has been in the smsm novitiate community in this parish.

Sr Senitila is originally from Tonga and at the end of the Mass Senitila received a missioning from Sr Georgeanne Marie, the congregational leader, to go to Madagascar. It was a truly joyous occasion.

The concluding hymn of the Mass was a good reminder to Senitila and to us all ‘to be a LIGHT to the nations’: ‘I am sending you out in my name to all the earth – BE filled with GOSPEL fire the LIGHT of the world.’
